It's interesting to watch how people react.
Many times, a reaction will betray a deep rooted belief or fear. A good example is how this person reacted to a recent SEO Blog Post of mine. HIs reactions can be seen here and here. I think I know where his venom is coming from, but that's not the point of this post.
Two weeks ago, the NY Times ran a story about hate mail being sent to black students at a New Hampshire Prep School. The national news can be counted on to remind us that pockets of deep rooted racism still exist in this country. In a historic year where a black man is emerging as the democrat's choice to run for president in the fall, it seems unlikely that there isn't a bigot or two hunkered down in the ozarks, mad as hell over these recent developments.
The history of race relations in this country is littered with one atrocity after another. It might be easy to dismiss those letters mailed in New Hampshire as the work of a few angst-ridden teens, but we are all products of our environment. Our friends at Google are happy to show us that a nurturing environment for this type of pen-pal is not hard to find.
And so here we are. In a time when much of the country is desperate for a new direction, our best hope stands at risk.
The NY Times provided some insight into how this concern lingers in those close to Barak Obama. It's the potential reaction that gives rise to the fear. The reaction to black students attending a prep school in New Hampshire manifested itself as hate mail. And if Obama wins, what will the reaction be?
