Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss

March 03, 2008

Today marks the 104th birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel - more fondly known as Dr. Seuss.

As a father I never tire of reading the adventures of Horton or the Grinch or Mulberry Street to my boys. I take cues from the animated shows I remember from my youth and let the voice of Boris Karloff shape my storytelling. I even have the first paragraph of Horton Hears a Who memorized and will sometimes begin reciting it, just for fun, not matter who happens to be listening.

For a little Seuss trivia, here's an archive of Seuss political cartoons I happened upon this morning. It's a little unnerving to see the whimsy of Seuss' illustrations advocating the purchase of War Bonds.
